Lenape Great Navesink to Minisink Trail Historical Marker Project

County and township officials recognized the Inter-tribal Council of AT&T Employees (ICAE) for installing three historical markers along Middletown portions of the 75-mile Lenape Great Navesink to Minisink Trail, which once connected communities from Sandy Hook to the Delaware Water Gap. As the first formal recognition of the trail, the project—funded by AT&T and the ICAE—aims to commemorate the Lenape’s role in shaping New Jersey’s early travel, trade, and settlement routes. Supported by local historians, tribal representatives, and civic organizations, the initiative highlights the continued presence and cultural contributions of Lenape descendants in the state.

Two Worlds, One Land: The Lenape and The Settlers

Directed by Derek Chen, this documentary explores the clash between the Lenape’s spiritual, communal stewardship of land and European settlers’ concept of land as private property. Centered in Lenapehoking (modern-day Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware), the film traces the Lenape’s displacement, the Sand Hill Lenape’s adaptation, and episodes of cooperation like the Long Swede Rebellion. Featuring Claire T. Garland, the documentary examines whether this collision of worldviews led to irreparable conflict or offers lessons for bridging divides and addressing modern environmental and cultural challenges.
